Decorating a Christmas tree is a cherished holiday tradition that brings warmth and joy to any home. A beautifully decorated traditional Christmas tree captures the spirit of the season. This year I have worked with two amazing brand to create our stunning Lavish tree. Balsam Hill and Bents garden centre have collaborated on this year tree and im so happy with the outcome. I want to share all the details.

Choosing the Right Tree

The foundation of a stunning Christmas tree starts with selecting the right tree. This year we chose a Flip tree from balsam hill. It is the Vermont White Spruce Tree, in 7.5ft pre lit.

  • Size and Shape

Measure the space where the tree will stand. A tree that is too tall or too wide can overwhelm the room. Look for a tree with a full, symmetrical shape for a classic appearance. This tree is known for its realism, achieved with True Needle® foliage, and its upward-sloping branches, which are designed to showcase decorations

  • Real vs. Artificial

Real trees offer a fresh pine scent and natural beauty but require maintenance like watering and needle cleanup. Artificial trees are reusable, often come pre-lit, and can be shaped to perfection. Balsam Hill are know for their realism so its a win win with them.

  • Tree Type/Flip Tree

Popular tree varieties include the Vermont White Spruce which is know to look the most natural and realistic. Their Flip Tree® is a patented design that allows set up and take down in minutes by simply flipping the base and attaching the treetop.

This is how easy a Balsam Hill Flip tree is to set up!!

Selecting a Color Scheme

Now this is where the fun at Bents comes into play. Bents is a local family run garden centre that sells the most amazing Christmas decorations. Traditional Christmas trees often feature classic color combinations that evoke nostalgia and warmth. My main colour is winter red which I love, but here are some popular choices:

  • Red and Gold/Br0nze

This pairing creates a rich, festive look. Use red berries, ribbons, and branches alongside gold accents like accents, bells, and garlands.

ree

  • Green and White

Emphasize the natural green of the tree with white lights and snowflake ornaments for a winter wonderland feel.

ree

  • Silver and Blue

Silver adds sparkle and elegance, balancing the calm of blue decorations.

Stick to two or three main colors to keep the design cohesive and avoid clutter. This year I bought some beautiful unique decorations from Bents. They have the most amazing choclate toned baubles which i loved. Plus they had lots of statment bows which are so on trend this year.

Lighting Your Tree

Lighting sets the mood and highlights your decorations. One of the main reasons I love balsam hill is their pre lit trees are absolutly impeccable, no messing with unravelling wires!! Follow these tips for a warm, inviting glow:

ree

  • Choose Warm White Lights

Warm white lights create a cozy atmosphere that complements traditional decor better than bright white or colored lights.

  • Use Plenty of Lights

A good rule is 100 lights per foot of tree height. For example, a 6-foot tree should have about 600 lights.

Hanging Ornaments

Ornaments bring personality and charm to your tree. For a traditional look, focus on these elements:

  • Classic Shapes

Use round baubles and bells. Glass or shatterproof ornaments in red, gold, and white work well.

  • Balance and Variety

Distribute ornaments evenly around the tree. Mix large and small ornaments to create visual interest.

  • Personal Touches

Add family heirlooms or handmade ornaments to make the tree unique.

Tree Topper and Skirt

The finishing touches complete your traditional Christmas tree:

  • Tree Topper

I like to use lots of stems to create a floral crown that sits as a tree toppers. By doing this I feel like its a nice alternative to using a tradition star or angle. It gives a nice creative feel to your tree.

ree

  • Tree Skirt

Use a fabric skirt in velvet, plaid, or faux fur to cover the tree stand. This adds warmth and hides unsightly bases.
